(Not uncommon, I know). When it came back on, " Network Searching... T " was in the upper left corner where "Sprint" should be. I also noticed that "Phone Info" had NO information in it. I did a Hotsync and then did a hard reset. This did not help... still " Network Searching... T ". It was a holiday so Sprint tech support could not be reached. I did some research and found only one forum that mentioned this particular problem.

The Diagnosis:
The next morning, I took the Treo to a Sprint store. They took a look at it and realized right away that there was something wrong. Within 30 minutes, I had a new (refurbished, I'm sure... but it's ok... I trust that Palm installed the latest updates and stuff). Thank goodness for the Sprint Total Equipment Protection ($6 per month). All it cost me was a little time.

The Moral(s):
1. Get the Total Equipment Protection with Sprint. Especially if you have a Treo. These are fantastic phones, but let's gain some perspective... there is a huge amount of technology squeezed into a shell the size of a wallet. Things are bound to go wrong. Love it when it works... insure it for when it doesn't. The price is too high to risk it.

2. Hotsync and backup often!

Don't Pay for Remote PC access!

Want to connect to your PC from any computer? You can buy programs that will do it, but why when you can do it for free?

TightVNC is a program that runs on your computer allowing you to remotely access your desktop. Although there are several similar VNC programs out there, this one worked best for me (on Windows XP Home). If you have Mac or Linux, you may have to try others, but never pay for VNC technology... you can always find it for free.

Here's how it works:
VNC is short for Virtual Network Computing. In every network there is usually a client and a server. The most important part of VNC is the server program which gets installed on your home/work computer (the one you want to control). It creates the remote screen that you will see. The client program gets installed on the "remote control" computer. It is what "sees" the server. If you don't have access to install the client, you can always use your web browser (Internet Explorer, etc.) to access the server. The catch is, you have to know what your IP address is on the computer you want to control. If you have a home/wireless network with a router, there are some updates that need to be made to router for it to work. If you want to know more, contact us and we can offer you tech support or visit the TightVNC web page for more info.

For you Treo users, there is also PalmVNC.
